Crime is a big problem in the world; many believe that nothing can be done to prevent it. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give your own opinion.
Crime is unquestionably one of the most prevailing and worrying aspects in any society, and its prevention should be taken seriously. Crime prevention can be executed in various ways, firstly through a sustained honest presence in the community and secondly through international cooperation.
A local presence by incorruptible law enforcement authorities may be costly, however, the long-term investment would pay dividends in the future. A safer region would encourage trade, investment and set an invaluable example for younger generations. For example, crime has dramatically been reduced in the Favelas around Rio de Janiero in Brazil. This was achieved largely through the government committing large funds of money to stationing police headquarters in and around the slums. These financial expenditures greatly benefited the community.
Secondly, due to the large-scale severity and the global impact that crime has in some areas of the world, global cooperation is critical. Operating in a different way would incur significant financial losses and render any expenditure futile. For example, Somalian pirates in Africa have reigned terror amongst many ocean transport companies in the area. Only through large-scale international cooperation was policing the area possible. Therefore, crime reduction can be attributed to a joint effort between countries.
To conclude, illegal activities are a costly and dangerous fact in the present global economy; however, through large-scale government investment prevention is an attainable goal. Also, spreading the expense through international cooperation the resources invested can be significantly more effective in reducing criminals’ effectiveness abroad.
Reports are showing that crime has increased all over the world and many people believe that nothing can be done to prevent it, while others disagree. What is your opinion?
The crime rate has increased tremendously since the dawn of the twentieth century. While some people believe that it cannot be controlled, I think the active participation of individuals, close cooperation of various organs of the state coupled with extensive use of technology can curtail the crime rates.
Active participation of every adult citizen in preventing crimes in his locality will go a long way in maintaining security. Keeping this in mind, several regional governments have introduced the concept of citizen watch. The people are made eyes and ears of the law enforcement agencies and are motivated to inform the agencies as soon as they witness anything suspicious.
Moreover, close cooperation of government departments such as intelligence, police, and vigilance can prevent many crimes from occurring. Criminals often resort to breaking the law in one state and crossing over to another state to benefit from lack of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two states. Catching such criminals requires not only cooperation between two state police departments but also a national investigating agency that has jurisdiction over the whole country.
Finally, extensive use of technology can help curtail crime rates. Since many criminals are active on social media websites such as Facebook, the investigating agencies scour through millions of social media posts to catch people who may try to commit crimes in the near future. This has been adopted as a credible and reliable strategy in the global war against terrorism.
Increasing crime rates – both small crimes such as a theft and heinous ones such as a terrorist strike – is a threat to modern social order. Adopting right strategy and tactics will help governments reduce crime rates and make society more peaceful and secure.
In many countries the level of crime is increasing and crimes are becoming more violent. Why do you think this is and what can be done about it?
In recent times, crime has become the global issue and is increasing at an alarming rate. In this essay, I will examine some factors contributing to this problem and will also suggest some solutions for the same.
There are several reasons for the increase in crime level. One of the reasons that is often given is the increasing gap between the rich and the poor. One good illustration of this is that the people who are in dire need are bound to steal for their livelihood. Furthermore, illegal activities such as consumption of drugs have also contributed a lot in enhancing the crime level around the globe. For instance, According to recent news reports, in many countries like Mexico and, Iran, drug addiction has contributed significantly in enhancing violence levels. Finally, although not a major cause but violence in television and game is also a contributing factor to violence.
However, solutions are available to tackle this problem. Firstly, more satisfactory jobs need to be created for poor. In fact, a recent study has concluded that majority of crimes can be curbed if basic necessities of people are met. Furthermore, there has been little success in the war against drugs, so taking stringent actions against drug traffickers can be another solution. To exemplify, the rising crime rate in Punjab can be halted easily by checking the cross border drug supply from Pakistan.
After having discussed the most pertinent points of this issue, I feel that even though crime is a growing global problem, mainly caused by the lack of basic necessities and unlawful activities, various methods such as creating new jobs and taking severe actions are available which can prevent this from worsening.
